Position Summary
We are currently seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented, and professional Cleaner to join our facilities team at the Blue Hills campus. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the school premises are always clean, sanitary, and conducive to effective teaching and learning. As a Cleaner, you will play an essential part in creating a welcoming and healthy environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
As a Cleaner, you will be responsible for a wide range of cleaning and sanitation tasks, including but not limited to:
- Daily Cleaning Duties:
- Sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping all classrooms, hallways, and offices
- Dusting surfaces such as desks, shelves, windowsills, and equipment
- Cleaning windows, glass doors, and display panels
- Restroom Maintenance:
- Sanitizing toilets, urinals, sinks, and taps
- Refilling soap dispensers, toilet paper, and hand towels
- Ensuring proper disposal of sanitary products
- Waste Management:
- Emptying and sanitizing bins in all classrooms and shared spaces
- Segregating waste in accordance with school policy (recyclables vs general waste)
- Kitchen & Staff Room Care:
- Cleaning countertops, sinks, and appliances
- Restocking consumables like tea, coffee, sugar, and milk (where applicable)
- Special Assignments:
- Deep cleaning during holidays or after school events
- Assisting in setting up or cleaning before and after school functions
Requirements and Qualifications
To be considered for this role, candidates should meet the following requirements:
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Grade 10 or equivalent (Matric preferred but not essential)
- Must be fluent in English or one South African official language
- Experience:
- At least 1 year of professional cleaning experience in a school, hospital, office, or hospitality environment is preferred
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, proper storage, and safe handling practices
- Skills and Attributes:
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work under minimal supervision
- Good physical stamina – ability to lift, bend, and stand for extended periods
- Honest, punctual, and reliable
- Team player with good communication skills
- Awareness of health and safety regulations
Working Conditions
- Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work depending on school events
